2005: based on “Saint Sebastian” by Mantegna. A rather controversial photo which caused some rumblings before and after being published, based as it is on a religious subject and involving a sex change - the rather sado-masochistic content is common to both.
On seeing Erika for the first time I was struck by her body-piercing which she had all over her body, even through her tongue: she seemed perfect for poor San Sebastian shot to death by arrows. “But he’s a man!”, she said innocently when I proposed San Sebastian. I especially like the proud and defiant look of Erika in this image.
